How To Get Unstuck

We deal with a lot of things every single day. Between the society or world around us and our own personal life, it can get super hectic. We are all human beings and we should be able to feel all of our emotions but we shouldn’t let them take over our lives completely. Being stuck and unmotivated can honestly happen for a lot of reasons. It can cause complications in friendships and so much more!

You may feel lazy, depressed, or irrupted and it can even be all at the same time. These feelings are very much really normal and you shouldn’t be ashamed of them. You should however want to get back on track (which obviously you do since you’re reading this post).

So if you are here to find simple and tried ideas of how you can get yourself unstuck, here’s what works for me every single time.

– Get Organized

(This goes out to the college students or even those who work their own businesses!)

Getting organized is really the start of all your problems here. We tend to think we are already an organized person but 9 times out of 10, you’ve gotten lazy and stopped organizing things, and your organization methods before got too complicated or boring for the person you are at this moment.

Find what works for you and really stick with that planning tool. It can be a new planner, a new app on your phone, or even finding a friend or two that could help you keep accountable as you help them out too!

Having a system of planning out your day, week, or month (or even all three) really does give you a clear mindset of WHAT you need to do and HOW you will get there. It’s all about the planning!!

– Declutter & Rearrange

Your space is literally the most important place you are going to spend time. Especially if you’re in that space for the majority of your day.

If you’re spending time in your room a lot of the time, rearrange the furniture. I actually really love moving around my bed.

When I’m in a little slump or unmotivated I really look around my room to see what I have, and boy do I have a lot! I’ve had this tendency of keeping things because I can sell them, I put them in a designated place and welp you’ve guessed it, it hasn’t moved since I put them there 3 years ago (or possibly longer than that) so I do have these splurge moments to get up and clean it up once in a while. Not only does it give me something to do that isn’t business-like, but it’s also a great feeling to then sit down at the end of the night and see less clutter around my room!

Something super small definitely makes a HUGE difference in getting unstuck.

– Reduce the daily distractions

It becomes really hard to focus on whatever you are trying to get accomplished if you have so many distractions around you. Turn off your phone, put it on airplane mode, or do not disturb, write down all that you want to accomplish if you didn’t already, and get to it!

I like to use two apps to help me stay productive:

  1. Productive
  2. Flora ( I think it’s a paid one so you can use Forest, the same concept!)

These apps have saved me a lot of procrastination.. I’ll be making reviews of these apps in more depth in the future. Stay tuned!

– Change up your playlist

Music can definitely put you in a mood. We all turn to a great car playlist for the summer and sometimes a good sad playlist to make us a little more sad and relatable, right? So what makes you pumped or in the mood to get things done?

I’ve really loved apple music for a really long time but recently I unsubscribed to it and have been using my Spotify. Not just because I have a great deal of Spotify and Hulu at the price of one (thank you black Friday deals) but I also really enjoy Spotify and how they already have pre-made playlists for you.

The pre-made playlists save me a lot of time. I mean sure I HIGHLY recommend making your own playlists but don’t just listen to the same songs over and over again, expand your genre listening— you never know what a new song can bring to that motivation table.

– Don’t beat yourself up

We all go through these times when we are just unmotivated. We don’t want to really go out with friends or family, we don’t want to really do anything productive, it happens! Do not beat yourself up for it, in fact, you should be kind to yourself.

Nudge yourself back onto this path by taking one small step forward because if you’re just being super rude and down on yourself you’re creating this room to always put yourself in this OVERWORK mode and that’s where down the road you’ll be in this spot, all over again.

All in all, you’re a human being. You’ve got your good days where you can tackle 100 things while you have your other days that are moderate or bad days. It’s okay to have all these in the same week. What’s not okay is letting yourself stay in this funk for months and months.

Remind yourself of how much you’ve gotten done today, this week, or this month. Remind yourself that the end game of all your plans and dreams will come true when staying on this clear path of plans for yourself. Be realistic with your goals. Be realistic with yourself. Be kind. You’ve got this.

xox,
