My introduction to Ms. Takiyah occurred on Facebook, roughly around May or June [of 2023], and despite having numerous mutual friends, it wasn’t our shared connections that prompted me to follow and befriend her. Instead, it was the genuine and unfiltered nature of her content, a rarity in the world of social media.

Upon realizing her role as a Curve model and influencer, I felt an immediate pull to incorporate her posts into my feed for various compelling reasons. Foremost among these is my desire to curate a space that radiates positivity and empowerment—a quality that Takiyah consistently brings to life through her captivating posts.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in your

industry?

My name is Takiyah Denise, I am a 24-year-old wife, curve model, and influencer. I got started within the industry by working at a clothing store called DressBarn! My first ever fashion job and during that time of learning and experiencing new clients. I knew that fashion was my career choice.

After working with that company, I decided I wanted to showcase my wardrobe and styling skills on my Instagram. I would post almost every day with different looks and ideas on how to put pieces together and even how to repurpose the items. That was my jumpstart into getting into the industry. I would tag brands in different outfits every day at 12 PM and that just became the thing I was known for. My account blew up out of nowhere when SHEIN decided to repost my outfit on their page. I was getting noticed by many brands and left and right I was booking deals. I knew I was going in the right direction by doing this.

What inspired you to become an influencer?

What inspired me was watching tv all the time. Seeing different women who were skinny all over the tv, but never anyone my size. To be honest being an influencer wasn’t even on my mind. I knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry and I first started as a designer. Which I love to do, I love to sew and then my love for photography came in.

I put both careers together and started with my wardrobe on social media. I began modeling and next thing I know I gained the title of Influencer. It was different for me, putting myself out there on social media. However, I knew fashion was/ is the industry for me.

Were there any specific influencers or mentors who influenced your journey?

Well, who boosted my career and a great tv mentor is Tyra Banks. She is the reason I became a model and really made a change in my life as a child. I remember her telling women who were curvy how beautiful they are. How much of a star they are in

America’s Next Top and that so many curvy women didn’t have the representation they needed in the modeling world. She inspired me to become one and I decided that social media is where I wanted to start.

After awhile of me growing my pages, Sydney L Bell and Talitha Jane are both major influencers I love supporting and have inspired me the most to challenge myself even more.

How have you evolved as an influencer since you first started?

Wow! I evolved a heck of a lot to be completely honest with you! I went from not showing my face and just putting outfits together. To now showing my face, putting together makeup looks and even showing my natural skin without it. I truly gain A LOT of confidence in this field of work.

When I first started, I was on my journey to self love. I wanted to put myself out there even though at the time I feared the thoughts and comments that would/could come with my content. Being a curve model and having a stomach with flabby arms and cellulite was extremely hard for me to accept. The fact that I gained so many loyal supporters and received so much love from my content. Is the reason why I am so confident and grateful to be where I am today. I now know how to love myself, continue to be myself, and love every step of the way!

Can you share some insights into how you monetize your platform?

My main monetization is sponsorships and modeling gigs. I receive loads of emails per day along with reaching out to 30-100 brands per day. I know many ask how to find the brands. Well I research every day new ways to find different brands and influencer sites help a lot with doing so.

My other monetizations are the bonus on Facebook, Affiliate marketing but only with brands I use a lot of, and my own business where I help mentor women to become models and influencers.

How do you maintain authenticity and stay true to your brand while creating sponsored content?

I always make sure to be picky with the brands I accept. I don’t accept all brands if they are controversial in a negative way. If the product is not up to par or something I don’t like. I will not promote it and if I end up promoting it I usually add my thoughts of truth.

Can you share a pivotal moment or experience that significantly impacted your influencer journey?

The best moment that made an impact was me going to LA Fashion Week! A serial moment as I would watch models on tv every day when I was younger. I would say that will be me up there one day. Here I am walking the stage and loving every moment of it. Now being invited to walk Dubai Fashion week along with Milan. I am truly grateful and astonished with what’s happening right now.

How do you handle the pressure and demands of being a public figure?

I always make sure to keep my life private. Just because I am in the public doesn’t mean my life has to be too. I showcase what I want and my supporters are always respectful with doing so and don’t expect personal life to be spoken about through my platforms.

How important is authenticity and staying true to oneself in the influencer industry?

Very important! I find that’s what makes you different. No one wants to keep seeing the same energy every day on social media. I don’t want to keep seeing the same surgical body type, or the same Kardashian look alike. I want to see a variety and let the Kardashians be who they are and you be who you are. If we all looked and did the same things. Life would be so boring! So stay true to yourself and be different.

If you could collaborate with any influencer or celebrity, who would it be and why?

It would be Sydney Bell and Candice as they are so inspirational and lucky enough for me they already know each other and have collaborated before. I do hope to one day meet them in person and talk about aspirations and goals. Pick their brains to really know how they started the journey of being an influencer and Candice a celebrity. How long did it take them to hit that status?

How do you manage your time between your influencer commitments and personal life?

I actually manage it by leaving my influencer work time to just the weekdays and work while my husband is working. When he gets home, all electronics are put down so we can spend time together. Weekends are off as that’s my time to relax and unwind with my husband and dog.

Takiyah Denise spilled some seriously tasty influencer tea, and if you’re deep into the influencer game or just starting out, you won’t want to miss these insider deets. I got the lowdown by asking Takiyah some super specific questions, and she totally delivered.

How do you stay updated on industry news and emerging platforms?

I research a lot about new and upcoming platforms/ apps so I can be the first or at least one of the firsts to promote it. That helps with getting my name out there for others to see.

How do you engage with your followers and create a sense of community?

I always ask my audience to engage in my broadcast channel by answering polls and answering questions to make sure my audience knows I care about them. I answer back on comments no matter how many there are. Sometimes I’ll even follow them back and comment on their stuff.

What do you consider your biggest achievement as an influencer so far?

My biggest achievement as an influencer is being able to work with top celebrities like Ariana Grande, Taraji P Henson, and Khloe Kardashian. I was and still truly amazed to even have opportunities like this in my life.

One last question to end this here, what’s the most memorable comment or message you’ve received from a follower/supporter?

The most memorable would be from a now great friend of mine Uilani she told me that I am the change this world needs to see. That she can see me being on top of the list as a celebrity. That I will make a difference as an influencer. Till this day her message will always stick with me as inspiration and motivation to keep going and doing what I love most.
